Never Say Never
If there is one thing I have learnt in my 28.5 years of being a female and fashion advocate, its fashion comes and goes then manages to modernise itself 10 to 20 years later.
Have you ever laughed at your parents fashion sense from when they were in their early twenties or even better teenage years, only to hear them say ‘Hey I was very trendy and that was cool back in my day ” ? I know we have all done this at some point in our life. I even had an A-HA moment sitting in a local cafe last week, watching a group of young fashion students order their lattes, only to be wearing clothing and accessories I too once thought was the “it thing” when I was in grade 6 ( 11 – 12 years old ) – Fashion on repeat.
Here’s how it works in a snap shot.
Top tiered designers such as Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel feature a certain trend on the runway, despite us all thinking quietly to ourselves that ‘we would never be caught dead in that’. Fast forward a season and your favourite media personalities you look to for inspiration are now rocking those trends you once loathed. Not long after it’s the next big ” Must have item ” being featuring at your local high street boutiques and some how this item has now made it the top of your wish list.
Never Say Never – Its about making the trend fit you and your overall aesthetic.
On a side note – I can only imagine in another 20 years time my future children will too be laughing at my blog and my fashion choices.
What trend did you think you would never be caught wearing ??
